The project focuses on developing a tablet-based cognitive gaming platform designed for older adults, aimed at maintaining and improving their mental abilities, a concern often prioritized over physical health in this age group. Recognizing the brain's capacity for change, similar to muscles in response to training, the program leverages guided exercises on memory, attention, and other cognitive functions, often supported by commercial video games and neuropsychological software. Evidence from large-scale studies suggests that older adults who engage in regular, structured cognitive training can see significant improvements in cognitive performance, akin to results seen in drug trials. The platform will offer games and activities that increase in difficulty as users' abilities improve, promoting both cognitive and social engagement in a group setting. This initiative aligns with the European Commission’s Active Ageing Index, which assesses the extent to which older individuals can participate in social and cultural life and live independently.
